29- Immutable God

When did He break His promise?
When did His kindness fail?
Never has, never will
My God is still the same
When did He lose His power?
When did His mercy change?
Never has, never will
My God is still the same, yeah
My God is still the same
-Josh Bronleewe / Chris Rohman / Dustin Lolli

In a post-modern world, philosophers and theologians attempt to define God in new ways based upon the belief that man has achieved a higher state of being in the 21st century. But God has always been the same, since the beginning of time, throughout Israel's history, in the middle ages of Europe, and today in the bustling tech-dependent world of 2025. Sometimes we read the Old Testament and compare the "God of the Old Testament" to how we understand Jesus in the New testament and we wonder if they are the same God? The attributes of God were present in the flood Noah's days, the calling of Abraham, the rescue of God's people from Egypt, the exile of Israel into captivity, and in Jesus' arrival as the messiah. God's justice, truth, wisdom, love, faithfulness, and sovereignty have been on display in every part of scripture. God's character, purposes, and heart has never changed throughout time - we can depend upon the fact that God will always remain the same.

Worship the God who who never changes

You will always remain the same - this is a strong foundation for me Lord. I can trust in Your character and I can stand firmly on the truth of your never-changing Word. This world is always changing, new trends pop up daily and yesterday's news is thrown away, but you will never be anything different from who You say You are.

Psalm 102: 25-27

In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth,
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
26 They will perish, but you remain;
they will all wear out like a garment.
Like clothing you will change them
    and they will be discarded.
27 But you remain the same,

and your years will never end.

Appropriate the truth of scripture as you grow in your walk of faith

May I be encouraged today, Lord, by the fact that Your promises are unchanging and I can trust Your word. Bolster my faith Lord that I might walk in hope, knowing that Your purpose will be fulfilled. When I feel unsteady or shaken by the news of current events, remind me Lord that You are my strong anchor to hold me firm in my faith.

Hebrews 6:17-20

Because God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two unchangeable things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope set before us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where our forerunner, Jesus, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.

Light - Walk in the light by openly confessing your sins and need for God

I am reminded today that You are my Father and You graciously share "every good and perfect gift" with me.  When I am seeking to fulfill my desires outside of Your will, I have forgotten that You already provided more than I need.  You are steadfast, and unlike the newest, shiniest popular fad of the day, You will truly satisfy my heart.  Forgive me for running after the things the world offers when You have already given me so much!

James 1:13- 17

When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Know Him more and more as you spend time with Him daily

You are the God who will never leave me or forsake me, what a comforting promise. You are the same yesterday, today and forever! I will rest in that.

Hebrews 13:5b-8
God has said,

“Never will I leave you;
    never will I forsake you.”
 So we say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?”

Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Praying Scripture Over Your Life

God shapes the world by prayer. The more praying there is in the world the better the world will be, the mightier the forces against evil.  — E.M. Bounds Many years ago I began to develop a longing for a deeper and richer prayer life, to figure out what it meant to be a prayer warrior. An acquaintance of the time (a missionary who had a heart to build up others) gave me a little prayer book that helped guide my time in prayer and became a part of regular time with God. There is no doubt that prayer is powerful, but many times when we sit down to pray, we can feel at a loss for words.  How do I pray through this situation?  How does prayer not become rote or surface level?  How can I enrich my prayer life and make it a rich experience in God’s presence, drawing closer to Him and truly approaching the throne with confidence?   There are many prayers recorded throughout the scriptures that can guide us in our prayers and by using these scriptures, we can be c...

Day 1 - Praying Scripture and Walking with God

In worship, God imparts himself to us.  — C.S.Lewis As we begin a journey of praying through scripture, each day will be focused on the four elements, which consist of: worship, appropriating truth (spiritual growth), walking in the light (confession), and knowing God more as well as a specific focus to pray for different people each day.  This focus is intended to guide you through a time of prayer - for yourself, for your loved ones, for your school, etc.  Remember last week I introduced the idea of walking with God as though we were in the garden with Him again and to walk in the light with Him through this life. This imagery along with the key themes found in the Lord’s prayer lead us to the acronym WALK.   W orship the God who hears our prayers A ppropriate the truth of scripture as you grow in your walk of faith L ight - Walk in the light by openly confessing your sins and need for God K now Him more and more as you spend time with Him daily Before ...

Prayers for Your Children

My adult children have all left the nest, the last one off to college just this past month.  As they find their new independence and live far away from home, I am reminded of my great calling to pray for them regularly.  The best way to pray for someone is to follow the models we find in scripture, so I started with this Levitical blessing from Numbers 6:24-27.   The LORD bless you... We pray for our children that God would bless their lives, knowing that in this world there are many troubles and He never promised to keep us from them (John 16:33).  However, we know that blessings follow obedience and blessings are always found when living in His will.  We pray that God's good gifts would come to our children (Luke 11:11-13) because He is a good Father and He loves our kids just as much as we do!  May He bless them with peace that is beyond understanding no matter what challenges they face (Philippians 4:4-7).  May He bless them with good jo...
